ANCRUM KARATE SCHOOL. (Brief history 1969-2017)

Sensei Jim Fraser achieved black belt  in 1967 and started teaching at the Ancrum Activities Centre on April 6th 1969. Jim then went on to open Dundee's first professional karate school and martial arts shop in the Seagate in 1981 and in 2012 moved to "The Deaf Hub" in  Brown Street. Over the past 48 years Jim has taught a dynamic style karate call Shotokan that teaches how to generate strength, speed and power through correct breathing, coordination of movement and concentration.

So if you would like to get fitter, learn self de-fence while gaining confidence please come along to one of our classes.

Belt Grading.

Progressing through the syllabus is by a hierarchical colour belt grading system; there are 8 belt colours and then black. Students need visual signs of progress; this is why we have belts. Sometimes the gap between promotions can be to long and students lose interest. This is where our unique skill stripe system comes in.
